WIN WORCESTERíS 2004 SOUND AWARD for BEST BLUES ACT!
TWO YEARS IN A ROW 2003, 2004
April 17, 2003
The Wildcats were voted Wormtown Sound Award winners in the Blues/Roots
category in Worcesterís Best 2003 music poll. Nominations were given based
on a number of criteria: placement on the WORC "Worcester Rocks" Top 40 of 2002, year-end surveys filled out for Wormtown.org, and a two-week nomination period at the start of February; the final list was fine-tuned through evaluations and last minute suggestions by Scott McLennan of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and Charlene Arsenault and Noah Schaeffer of Worcester Magazine. Over 3000 people voted in the 2003 Wormtown Sound Awards; winners were announced as part of the Worcester Magazine "Best of" issue
which hit the streets on Thursday, April 17. Awards will be presented on
Sunday, May 4 at 5 p.m. at the Lucky Dog Music Hall as part of the Wormtown
25th Anniversary Celebration Weekend.
The Wildcats blues band, from Central Massachusetts, is known for their high-energy dance and jam blues with mostly original tunes in varied styles of blues and R & B, featuring jump, swing and rockin' blues meant for a spin on the dance floor.
The 'Cats feature the soulful female vocals and songwriting of Fay Adams combined with the intense lead guitar work, vocals and harmonies of Jeff Adams, all backed by funky, joyous grooves. The band frequently includes Hammond B-3 organ, and appearances by Boston area veteran saxophone players Bruce "the Goose", Mark "the Shark" and Scotty Shetler, who also provided the horn arrangements on their new CD on Black Rose Records, "By the Light of Day."
"Fay & Jeff Adams and crew are inspirational. Playing a mix
of contemporary, classic and original blues and R & B hits, tonight the Wildcats showed us
the details both large and small that make them one of the best party and dance bands in this part of New England.
Blue Plate Music Review, May 2002
"High energy blues cats who play both authentic originals
and not so traditional covers. Soulful female vocals are backed by joyous
grooves, as displayed on 2001's "Live At Gilrein's" disk."
North-by-Northeast Band Guide, 2002
Here's a preview of
some the things they're saying about the new CD, "BY THE LIGHT OF DAY":
"Their best work yet! This CD should bring the band to a new level
and warrants serious attention. So crank it up, give a listen and allow
yourself the pleasure of BY THE LIGHT OF DAY.
Harris, WBOS, "Blues On Sunday"
glad to see musicians who I like so much as people and players have come
out of the studio with a gem. This is not one of those blues records where
all the tracks sound alike. Itís an adventurous exploration of the many
sides of blues and R & B that I strongly recommend."
Wildcats, known for their danceable tunes and catchy melodies, dive into
uncharted waters with a bevy of pop-blues-and-rhythm originals that get
better with every spin of the disc."
